Spent the day installing #endeavour #linux which was mostly successful.
Reality is the core of all the apps and services I need I managed to get working. But a couple I could not after many hours of trying to debug why things like dvbcut wouldn't compile even with adjusted CXXFLAG etc, and why setting up a bridge NIC and leveraging that with #docker whilst using static IP addresses also added to a fair amount of confusion on my part.
I have plenty of notes on how to do all these things for #debian and I had tried much of this in VMs with #arch to replicate before going for the full install on my main machine.
At the end of the day, you need the apps to support what you need, in terms of data and/or workflow.
So I reverted back to #debian #stable
I will continue working with VMs via #libvirt and #qemu to see if I can overcome these problems. I had been testing in VMs but not every element.
My fault for those wasted hours, but not wasted as gained some knowledge and insight.
