I've just read this excellent piece of #GraphicMedicine by Alanah Knibb & Omatola Thomas about early onset Parkinson's, the importance of building community, & how knowledge & understanding of the disease is different across communities.

Join us as we discuss Menopause: a comic treatment together or check out our closing keynote talking about Keywords/Keyimages in Graphic Medicine with Lisa Diedrich (Stony Brook University) and Briana Martino (Simmons University)!

We've opened the event to public attendees after we had a few people request access to the events.

Some thoughts:

1. Learning better self-care, e.g. boundaries for stressful people and events, can do a lot to prevent unnecessary stress and aid recovery.

2. Our mental and physical health need good quality nutrition, sunlight and exercise .

3. Cutting sugar and over-processed food for 6 - 10 days improves our gut health immediately, improving general physical and mental health, or longer for long-term health issues.

I think in order to feel #DisabilityPride, a person needs to have a workable answer to this question: What does it mean to believe in oneself _and_ accept one's own limitations?

How do YOU relate to the things you're bad at but have to do anyway? Or the things you feel judged for not being able to do at all?

See the (free!) #Patreon post for this:

Being #disabled does NOT make a person pathetic! Aw HELL no. But the cultural messages say otherwise & I'm really struggling with *feeling* pathetic, worthless, etc. I don't think we can talk about #DisabilityPride without also talking about #DisabilityShame.

Hello everyone
Just noticed it’s my 1st anniversary on Mastodon. There doesn’t seem to be much to celebrate at the moment, but Mastodon is a reminder humans are good, curious, intelligent, witty, creative, supportive and on the whole very lovely.
Thanks for being here.
If anyone wants to say hello, I’m a media professor interested in #comics and #GraphicScience and #GraphicMedicine in particular. I’m currently writing a book on comics and #communication. Glad I found this place. 🙏🏼
