You know it’s Spring when the ducks are out with their chicks. This pair of Wood Ducks (Mum in the lead) had 9 chicks originally, but, sadly, the foxes prey on them, so they’re down to the 5 I can see in this shot. The chicks are prone to wandering off, so there may be more.

The wood ducks are still around or being seen which is unusual. Have been seeing them once a week or more as they grow up. This was about a week ago.

Its killing of nontarget birds included a federally protected #GoldenEagle, #WoodDucks, great #BlueHerons and #WildTurkeys. Pretty lady. Males get the lion’s share of attention but this female Wood Duck deserves her moment in the spotlight from the water droplets on her green crown to the pale hues coloring the feathers on her back to the iridescent azure on her wingtips.
Today’s #creationstruck moment: the exquisite nature-painted beauty of Wood Ducks. Water droplets, especially on the tops of their heads, are visible if you zoom in.
