Southwark News · London councils on the ‘brink of bankruptcy’ disappointed funding reform was not in Rachel Reeves’ Spring statementBy Sebastian Mann - Local Democracy Reporter

"A new £600m recovery grant will be targeted at England’s most deprived towns and cities, alongside longer-term “fair funding” plans intended to rebalance council funding away from the more affluent south-east."

"The financial problems dogging #councils have driven an unprecedented number of them into or close to insolvency in recent years as they struggle with soaring costs for #SocialCare, special educational needs and #homelessness."

@JugglingWithEggs #CarPark income is poison to #hospitals and #councils, giving incentive to fail at their non-financial primary aims. Also amazing none of #BBCNews, #EDP, #LynnNews and so on seem willing to question the #QEHKL absurdity. Building the car park tower and then building a new hospital on the RAAC hospital's car park means the new hospital will be hard up against the busy A149 coast road. Should build the new hospital extending in from the A1076 side, instead of the car park tower

What happens when #councils take control of #buses?

Outside of London, #BusServices have dropped by 50% since 2008, according to research by Friends of the Earth, external, with people on lower incomes and those without a car disproportionately affected.

One area bucking the national trend is Reading. Reading is one of only five areas in England where the local #bus company is owned by the council.
