I have finally snapped and my new audio interface is on its way to me
Time to say goodbye to my dated Focusrite 2i2 1st gen, your almost 15 years old at this point I made all of my productions to this date with jt
Good times, good times, thank you

I just want to spread the work of (and my thankfulness to) user geoffrey on LinuxMusicians.com on Linux support for the last Scarlett audio interface models. Also for all the extra support he provides to whoever ventures in his bleeding edge versions (and to anyone).
The result is full Linux support for all firmware features and a native GUI app that does everything -- firmware updates included. No more visits to my emergency-Windows partition!

Is there someone out there who knows how to set up #Focusrite #Scarlett sound cards with #Linux and #Reaper? Or at least can point me in the right direction?
I bought it, following your web article.
It was correctly recognized out of the box on #Debian 12.
But @pipewire is a user nightmare. Impossible to have correct device sampling rate set. And if by chance you reach that point, delay of like 1second can come to the party in the middle of your play, when this is not garbage noise or clicks. (same with #Focusrite 2i2)
I finally understood Bitwig could use #ALSA when the device was not in use.
I'm sad for beginners.
Catch-up:
I didn't want to overpay for Edifier S880DB for the first monitor, and wanted to buy a external sound card, so I bought Presonus Eris 3.5 2nd Gen as monitor speakers, and Focusrite Scarlett Solo Gen 4 as an external sound card.
Currently I'm using PC's DAC / Sound card, since the Scarlet didn't arrive yet, but woah, this monitors, even considered as entry level, is a huge bump up from my old 5.1 setup.

I set a spare laptop up as a #Linux #audio rig I guess I have a "Studio B" now...
I can even control my 3rd gen #Focusrite 4i4 thanks to alsa-scarlett-gui
My goal is to have a solid, stable, low-latency "digital tape machine" for tracking/recording at 192kHz with (hopefully) better reliability than my 2012 Mac.
Therefore my choice of #DAW is #Ardour at least for now. I've already skimmed all the preferences and optimized its CPU priority etc.
I used to keep up with all the major accessible music technology for blind musicians, but now it feels harder to stay updated. The #MusicTech industry still has a long way to go, but there's been a great progress—so much more is accessible now compared to just 10 years ago! #Reaper, #Logic, #ProTools, #Samplitude, #Sibelius, #Musescore, #KompleteKontrol, #Ableton Live, #Juce, #Izotope, #Arturia, #Softtube, #Audient, #Focusrite, #Zoom, #SurgeSynth, #UVI, Sao Mai Braille... What else am I missing?
Ooh, the new Scarlett 16i16 looks like a well considered replacement for the 8i6. Similar footprint but way more features - including a physical button to A/B toggle between speakers, an extra 13dB gain (69dB total, should be enough to drive an SM7b without a Cloudlifter now), and USB-C powered instead of an external powerbrick. Not that I can justify the cost of upgrading my 8i6 yet.
It turns out that if you disable the in-game overlay in #Ubisoft connect, the problem goes away and is fixed. Why couldn't Ubisoft support just tell me that instead of just fucking me around? Even the latest update of this game still has this bug! a show stopping thing that has been allowed to persist for a year. Once I got it working too, it was working with my #Focusrite 2i2 guitar interface with ASIO, something that was never working very well before. 2/end
Btw. For some reason the inputs on the #Vocaster box are labeled "host" and "guest" instead of the more neutral A/B, left/right or 1/2. I guess #focusrite want to push "it's a #podcast thing!".
I'll see if I can re-label it as it annoys me. If anyway wonders: both inputs are exactly the same and neither has priority over the other.
Fyi. Also the USB-C cable that came in the box was broken. Took me ten minutes to figure that out as it did make a connection. Apparently a common issue.
