The lack of joined up thinking from this government is quite impressive.

"Our number one mission is to grow the economy, but the economy isn't growing enough. What can we do to fix it?"

"I know: let's increase the barriers in the way of people doing productive work!"

"Yes, of course, genius!"

"In a report published on Wednesday, it said the #UK can reach #netzero #emissions by 2050 while spending as little as 0.2% of the country’s gross domestic product or about £4.3 billion ($5.4 billion) each year on average. That’s a 75% reduction from the committee’s previous estimate in 2020 of net costs of £16.1 billion each year between 2025 and 2050.

The Guardian · Environmentalists urge Reeves to rethink plans for airports and roadsBy Helena Horton

I’ve been watching and reading about the lengths that UK businesses are going to to maximise their profits at the same time as spinning doom-and-gloom narratives to drive down workers’ pay and reducing the workforce while increasing responsibilties.

Supposedly banks have a recruitment freeze for UK-based workers but are willing to recruit cheaper online staff from overseas.

« Turns out Donald Trump isn't the only world leader with a tech billionaire "first buddy" who gets to serve as an unaccountable, self-interested de facto business regulator. Richard Murphy: "the Bank of England is deliverately putting the #UKeconomy into a downward spiral as a result of its quantitative tightening. This will force #RachelReeves to impose #austerity. However, rather than austerity, she should tell the Bank of England to stop selling #bonds (unless she is fearful of #banks)."
