So there’s this bell at The Bishop’s Palace in Wells, Somerset by one of the lower windows. And swans come along and ring it, and when that happens the window opens and the swans get fed.

The owners pull the rope up when they’ve gone out.

You can see the bell clearly in one of these photos, and it’s by the bottom-right window in the other.

They were out. The swans were sad.

#Murderbot Diaries by Martha #Wells are really really great - from the 2nd book [7 until today] onwards I listened to Kevin R. Free's audio versions which are also extraordinarily well done. 🧡🧡🧡 A very complex science fiction story arc overall, the books feature multiple timelines, multiple INPUTS [since yeah, Murderbot is a construct, a melange of organic tissue + mechanic/electrical components], some passages are told from multiple POVs! Really great stuff, I'm sorry for me it'll be over soon.

I've been drinking my well water for 8 years.

Would I have noticed if it had been poisoned by oleander roots?

My well is surrounded by native reeds and oleander. The lady who has been using the water for her horses for about 3 years, suddenly realised yesterday that the roots that regularly invade the well might be oleander and thus toxic for her horses. (Funnily enough she was not concerned about the water possible being bad for us.)

Many wells have oleander growing near them and the locals don't seems to worry about it particularly but now of course I'm wondering too.

Any ideas?
