The Surface of #Venus from Venera 14
Venera 14's 1982 Venus landing revealed a bleak landscape with flat rocks and a dull sky in Phoebe Regio. The Soviet probe, enduring extreme heat and pressure, functioned for an hour. Decades later, data suggests Venus may have active volcanoes.

Full moon rising - infrared/monochrome.
As seen in the mountains of southern New Mexico.
In near-IR the blue sky is rather dark, and trees/vegetation are almost white. Near-IR cuts through the haze, so the moon looks almost as if there is no atmosphere. (The trees are about 1/4 mile, 400 meters away...so they are slightly out of focus, but the moon is sharp.)
Camera is a modified Sony a6300, 400mm lens, 850 nanometers long pass IR filter. Image slightly cropped from entire frame.

M1: The Incredible Expanding Crab
M1, the Crab #Nebula, is a supernova remnant 6,500 light-years away in Taurus. Witnessed in 1054, it spans 10 light-years and expands at 1,500 km/s. #Hubble (2005) and #Webb (2023) images show its growth.

Flight Through the Orion #Nebula in #Infrared Light
Fly into the Orion Nebula with a visualization based on Spitzer Space Telescope data. Traverse a light-year-wide valley and reach a cavity shaped by the Trapezium stars' winds. The nebula, 1,500 light-years away, spans 40 light years in our Galaxy's arm.

Young Star Cluster NGC 346
NGC 346, a massive young star cluster in the Small Magellanic Cloud, is 210,000 light-years away. Its stars shape their surrounding nebula and trigger new star formation. This James #Webb Space #Telescope #infrared image shows the region's vibrant colors across 240 light-years.
