This delightfully detailed shoe charm pendant necklace is based on the nursery rhyme, There Was an Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe. The charm is vintage, hinged to reveal a tiny mother and three children inside the shoe house. Even the hobnails on the boot heel are detailed! The charm is hallmarked with a maker's mark and silver 925. It hangs from an 18" or 46cm chain of recycled sterling silver.

For #FindsFriday, we have some finds from the #cemetery of the #Elisabethinenspital in #Vienna. These were found during our 2019 #excavations on behalf of the #Franziskusspital. They are so-called #Breverl, paper pictures of #saints that were worn on the body, for example, in a #pendant made of metal and glass, to ward off #evil. The finds here date from the 18th century, but Breverl were widespread until the 20th century.

The picture shows a fragment of an old piece of paper that is partially covered with a broken glass plate. A Christian motif is depicted on the paper, which is still partially recognisable through the glass. The colour of the paper is greenish, which indicates a patina of a metal frame that is no longer preserved.
