#pixel4xl, running #GrapheneOS. Fully functional, minor spider glass effects at the upper right corner. A beautiful machine, only 5+ years old. So sad. Any ideas how to get it running securely today AND tomorrow?

Fellow Mastodons, I need help. I have an old Sony tablet, about 12 years old. It works but of course the OS is old etc.... Is there anything I can do to update it... Like using Graphene OS etc .. or should I not waste my time....

Sooo... A current #Android with march 25 patches has new exciting options: you can enable a full #Linux environment on your device and do stuff like running docker. I enabled this with my #grapheneos device (6a) just now, but when I want to use the new and shiny #Terminal app, I get a popup saying I need to download 565MB first - which then fails.

Edit: Ran out of storage space.

Today I can state that I successfully migrated from stock Android to GrapheneOS. And I'm almost done moving my calendar and tasks from my Google account to Mailbox.org

Habe heute gelernt, dass #grapheneos seinen Sitz in Kanada hat. Sehr schön.

Shot in the dark here, but has anyone used Island/Insular with #GrapheneOS in #Android ? (For those less familiar with it, Island/Insular is a tool by Oasis Feng that creates a custom work profile it manages to isolate apps installed within that profile. This way they don't get access to things most apps get access to on the host system -- even the stuff that doesn't have to ask for permission generally. Though there are a few things the work profile can still see.)

I'm having an issue that stuff I'm installing inside the island is disappearing after a while (specifically I guess after a reboot?) This doesn't occur in any other "ROM" I've used, so I think possibly it's related to the custom installer #GrapheneOS uses.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Anyone know of any good alternate OS options for a #samsung AO3s? I’ve seen options like #grapheneos for the pixel and want to try moving away from #android on this phone I have to experiment with, but I’m not quite sure where to start….

So with Apple running out of ideas, it must be time for a new coat of paint.

Before Apple makes more simple things complicated, maybe its time to try out one of the many Open Source Android projects, or maybe try out a Linux distro on a spare PC.
